Ronald Dale Motley
Ronald Dale Motley
Ron, known to many friends and colleagues as Ronnie or RD, passed away on 04/25/2026 at the age of 69, after battling cancer for 18 years. He was born in Tyler, Texas to Pete and Sylvia Motley and raised in Jacksonville, Texas.
Ron was a graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1978 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. He loved rooting for the Aggies across many sports while living in College Station for the past 25 years. An avid outdoorsman, Ron loved spending time hunting and fishing with family and friends. He especially enjoyed raising and training bird dogs for upland hunting and always had several “pointers” ready to go.
He was a lifelong oilman, with a successful career as an independent Landman spanning more than 40 years. His gift of connecting with people made it evident that his years as a Landman were more of a calling than a job. But what he loved most was his family and friends, and the time spent with them reminiscing. The greatest joys of his life were his sons, Jay and Travis, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by Jay, Heather, McKayla, Amelia, Emma and Hannah Motley; Travis, Whitney, Jack, Hazel and Alice Motley; Linda Motley, Carissa, Daniel, Linden and Lydia Perry, Audrey, Jared, Mack and Finn Hesson; Deborah Motley; Donna (Motley) and Marty Kropp, Jeff, Dottie, Allie, Maddie and Josie Buckholt; Cindy Motley; Jessica, Joseph, Halle, Bella, Hillary, Georgia and Hensley Harrison.
He is preceded in death by his parents Pete & Sylvia Motley, his brother Michael Motley and his nephew Ryan Motley.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 5–8 pm at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Texas. Services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10 am at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Texas, with graveside service immediately following at Rocky Springs Cemetery in Dialville, Texas.
Pallbearers are Travis Motley, Jay Motley, Glenn Smith, Butch Bateman, Marty Kropp, and Joseph Harrison.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Motley, Jeffrey Buckholt, Richard Jones, Mark Shurley, Jerry Ocker and Kerry Lowry
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to American Cancer Society or the Texas A&M Foundation.
