A memorial service for Joan Felder, 91, of Alto will be Thursday, March 12 at 2 PM at the A. Frank Smith Methodist Church in Alto. A visitation time will start at 1 PM.  Joan Davis Felder passed away on March 6, 2026, in Jacksonville, Texas.  
She was born on February 22, 1935, to Charles Lloyd Davis and Dorothy Mae Davis in Alto, Texas. Joan was the eldest of three children. She attended Alto High School and graduated in May 1953.  Joan married Charles Dean (“Charlie”) Felder on December 18, 1952, at Cold Springs Methodist Church.  They were married for 71 years.  They had two sons, Ricky and Deanie, and raised their sons in Alto and for several years in Charlotte, North Carolina. 
Joan’s life was vast and memorable.  She was a loving wife and mother, an amazing cook, gardener, businesswoman and world traveler.  Joan was a secretary and model at Douglas Furs, a business owner of her own travel agency: Travel Consultants; and later a part-owner of Travel Tech, Inc., with her business partners, Bob and Heather Westendarp. In 1999, Travel Tech was featured as one of the Top 50 Women-Owned Businesses of Houston.  
After retiring in 2001, Joan returned to her hometown Alto with her husband, where they spent the rest of their golden years. 
Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, and her eldest granddaughter, Jorjan Felder.  Joan is survived by her brothers, Larry Davis and Charles Davis; her sons, Ricky Felder and wife Shane, and Deanie Felder; her four grandchildren: Katie Beatty and husband Shawn, Michael Felder, Kelsey Goodwin and husband Bryar, and Sarah Cruz and husband Nick; her eight great-grandchildren: Jordan Henderson and wife Sky, Jayme Pace, Laret Neal, Colby Neal, Ember Beatty, Charley Beatty, Colson Cruz and Wyatt Goodwin; and her seven great-great grandchildren: Kellie Beard, Aurora Anderson, Kamdyn Henderson, Silas Deleon, Blakely Henderson, Angelous DeLeon, and Stetson DeLeon.
