Graveside funeral services for Lewis Earl Hicks, 96, of Alto will be held Saturday at 3 PM at the Old Palestine Cemetery in Alto. Mr. Hicks passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, at his home in Alto. He was born December 10, 1929, in Alto to Archie Earl Hicks and Ora Reece Hicks. Earl lived all his life in Cherokee County and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wells.
Earl was a business owner and had started out with Hicks and Craven Feed Mill in Wells for several years and later owning and operating Hicks Feed Mill in Alto for many years. Earl later owned and operated Little Bear Grocery in Alto and loved doing carpentry work. His last business was Earl Hicks Wholesale.
Earl was preceded by wife Cynthia Nell (Glover) Jackson Hicks; sons Jackie Hicks, Edward Tobias and Tommy Tobias; grandson Shane Tobias Tullos; great grandson Cooper Low; sister Gladys Jones and brother Leo Hicks.
Earl is survived by daughter & son-in-law Judy (Hicks) Montes and Wayne Montes; step daughter & step-son-in-law Gay (Jackson) Hicks & Kenneth Hicks; step son & step daughter-in-law Keith Jackson & Tasha (Hicks) Jackson; grandchildren Mickey Johnson (Tracie), Kiley Johnson (Diana), Wynette Tolley, Felinda Redd, Amanda Scarbrough (Billy), Denise Linton, Jason Tobias (Bridgett), Chris Tobias, Ranita Crosby (Steven), Lisa Low (Heath), Jeremy Jackson (Robyn), Jaleea Downs (Brian), Josh Hicks, Jake Hicks (Destini), and Jorden Fulton (Trent); brothers Alton Hicks and Roy Hicks; as well as numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Johnson, Kiley Johnson, Jeremy Jackson, Jake Hicks, Trent Fulton and Case Hicks. Honorary pallbearers are Josh Hicks and Ricky Bobbitt. There will not be a public visitation.
The family wishes to thank Affinity hospice in Lufkin for their compassion and care, and caregivers Amanda Haynes, Mary Butler, Crystal Pierce and Autum Matheny.
