Military service members and their families from throughout the area gathered Nov. 10 at Chili’s Restaurant in Jacksonville to celebrate the 250th anniversary of founding of the US Marine Corps, with the oldest and the youngest members present – Carroll Gresham (92) and Elaijah Danforth (20) – using a saber to slice servings of cake. About 40 people were present, enjoying visits and singing the Marine Corps hymn. Bob Martin, commandant of Marine Corps League Detachment #1381 of Jacksonville, read from Marine Corps Order 47, which dates back to 1921, detailing the formation of the corps and its mission.
