              A funeral service for Jerry M. Meador, 89, of Gilmer, was at 11 a.m., Monday, October 27, 2025, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Pastor Keith Hassell officiating. Visitation was at 10 a.m. He was laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland.
Jerry was born on July 31, 1936, in Gallatin to C. D. and Irene Meador and went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2025.
Jerry was a man of character and integrity, and his tireless work ethic was truly commendable. He devoted 30 years of dedicated service to Stroh’s Brewery. He was known to work at the brewery at night and sleep only a few hours, to then work the farming and pasture acreage and manage several cattle. He was especially known for his extraordinary tomatoes, no one could grow a tomato like Jerry. A man of quiet faith, Jerry was a member of the Church of Christ.
Beyond the farm, he was a devoted cattle rancher whose stewardship of the land earned him recognition from the Upshur-Gregg County Soil and Water Conservation District. As a sponsor of the Texas Conservation Awards Program and a resident conservation farmer, Jerry protected and preserved the land he loved, ensuring its vitality for generations to come.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth “Buddy Meador and Charles “Pete” Meador.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Joy (Halbert) Meador; daughters, Janet Cavazoz and husband Roy, Julie Russell and husband Michael, Jerilyn Williams and husband Eric; son, Justin Meador; brothers, Forest Meador and wife Mari, and Kit Meador and wife Diana; grandchildren, Jessica Davis and husband Grant; Elizabeth Ware and husband Kody; Micah Hussell and spouse May; Easton Williams and wife Crystal; MaryJane Guyton and husband Clint; Elyana Williams; and Elijah Russell and wife, Brooke; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Isaac, Nora, Carson, Emma, Andrew, and Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews
Pallbearers were Roy Cavazoz, Eric Williams, Michael Russell, Elijah Russell, Grant Davis, Kody Ware, and Clint Guyton.
Honorary pallbearers were Easton Williams, Daniel Behannon, and Mike Melton.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Brookdale Assisted Living in Henderson and Accent Care Hospice for their kindness, support, and devotion.
