Dixie May Acker

Dixie May Acker was born in Rusk on November 27, 1944 to Edwin and Margaret Dickey. She went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2025.
Dixie grew up and attended school in Rusk, graduating in 1962. She was a resident of Rusk for most of her life with short periods spent in Pasadena, Waco, Bremond, Palestine, Glennallen AK, and Jacksonville. She was married to Donald Acker in August of 1963 and recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Dixie’s work career doing mostly clerical work including periods at Rusk City Hall, Brown and Pavlotich Pallet company in Jacksonville in the late 70’s, and then Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association where she retired in 2010 after 30 years of service.
She stayed busy after retirement volunteering at Calvary Baptist Church in Rusk teaching Sunday School and taking care of the Bulletin, taking care of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working in the yard and pursuing her love of the outdoors with her beloved hobbies of rock collecting, photography, fishing and hunting.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Margaret Dickey; sisters Angela Dickey and Janie Barber; and brother-in-law Joe Drewry. Left to cherish her memory are loving husband of 62 years Donald Acker; sister Sarah Drewry of Rusk; and brother in-law Russell Barber of Jacksonville; son Joseph Acker and wife Rebecca; grandchildren Samantha and Christopher Acker of Diboll; daughter Cindy Moake and husband Danny Moake of Rusk; grandchild Katie Moake; great-grandchildren Alek and Erik of Rusk; grandchild Caroline Moake; great-grandchildren Landon and Izabella of Rusk. Also by nieces Collie Hagan and husband James Allen of Clear Lake Shores, Leigh Yancy and husband David of Troup, and several great nieces and nephews.
