Nancy Hobson Power

August 11, 1943 – April 16, 2025
Nancy Hobson Power passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Rusk, Texas, Nancy made her home in University Park for over 50 years, where she was a beloved member of her community.
A dedicated teacher, loving housewife, and lifelong learner, Nancy touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, sweet smile, and quiet strength. Her deep and abiding faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life and shone brightly in her service, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Winston C. Power Jr., who passed away 30 years ago. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Russell Power and Ashley Power Gomez; her son-in-law, JJ Gomez; and her three cherished grandchildren, Major Power, Scout Gomez, and Harper Gomez.
A passionate gardener and proud Master Gardener, Nancy found beauty and joy in nurturing life. She was a gifted seamstress, talented artist, and avid reader. For over 50 years, she was an active member of both the Armstrong Book Review and the Park Cities Baptist Book Club. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering in the Park Cities Baptist Church Library and participating in the church’s Language and Culture program. Above all, Nancy found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she adored.
Nancy will be remembered for her sweet, gentle spirit, her servant’s heart, and the quiet strength of her faith. Her legacy of love and grace will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Services:
A family visitation will be held at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk, Texas, on Saturday, April 26, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow on Sunday, April 27, at 3:00 p.m. at E.L. Russell Cemetery in Rusk. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held in Dallas on Monday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. in Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist Church, with a luncheon reception to follow in Ellis Parlor.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Nancy’s memory to Park Cities Baptist Church or First Baptist Church in Rusk, in honor of her enduring spirit and love of the Lord.
